Before You Vote…

“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how…Pray especially for rulers and their governments.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 MSG
Here in the United States, today is Election Day.
Wherever you reside in the world, certainly you have heard news of the two main candidates who have been vigorously campaigning over the past many months.
And now today, Americans everywhere will be closely watching the results as polls close across the country.
“Here are my directions: Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all he is going to do for them. Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 TLB
Regardless of the outcome you hope to see, you are called to pray—and then to keep on praying.
As Kingdom citizens, we will continue to hold up our leaders and ruling authorities in prayer, declaring in faith that God’s mercy and wisdom will prevail.
And given that mandate, we will come together in just a few short weeks to press into heaven—and regardless of what we see or hear in the news or media, we will call upon God on behalf of this nation.

Wherever we find ourselves, we must humble ourselves and believe God’s Word in every circumstance. We must continue to rely on His faithfulness, His goodness, and His wisdom.
Romans 13:1 states, “There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power” (TLB).
God has promised that if we would humble ourselves and pray, He would heal our land. (See 2 Chron. 7:14.)
“Pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.”
1 Timothy 2:8 NLT
That alone is what we are called to do.
To help you fulfill that directive, I want to provide you with some specific prayer points and strategies.
Interestingly, prayer is not only one of this ministry’s principle success strategies, it is also one of our ten foundational core values. (You can read about all ten of our values by clicking here.)
This is our value statement regarding prayer:
We are a people of prayer. We are strategic because we are obedient; therefore we accomplish more by doing less.
So how should we strategically pray at this very hour? How can we accomplish more as we seek the greatest good for our country?
How can we lock arms in the spirit and effectively intercede on behalf of our nation today…and in the weeks, months, and years ahead?
Below I offer you a powerful prayer that I have prayed in agreement with other leaders, and continue to pray daily over our nation:
Heavenly Father, I give thanks for our government and leaders. I pray for all men and women having authority over us in any way. (1 Timothy 2:2)
Pour out Your Spirit upon them and make Your Word known to them. (Proverbs 1:23)
Give them wisdom, might, strategic counsel, reverential fear of the Lord, and insight. (Isaiah 11:1-3)
Cause them to be men and women of integrity; obedient concerning the corporate destiny of the citizenry that they serve. Let them be true servant leaders, transformational leaders—true visionary thought leaders—moral, ethical, and spiritual leaders. (Psalm 25:21)
Let the upright dwell in our government. (Proverbs 2:21)
Let wisdom enter their hearts, while they lead, while they instruct, while they speak, while they engineer policies, and while they slumber and sleep; and let knowledge be pleasant to them. Let wisdom guide them. Grant them prudence in conducting their daily affairs. (Proverbs 2:10)
Let discretion preserve them and understanding keep them, to deliver them from the way of evil and from evil men. (Proverbs 2:11-12)
Make their hearts and ears attentive to godly, wise strategic counsel. (Psalm 1:1)
May they continue doing what is right in your sight. (2 Chronicles 20:32)
Allow there to be a shaking in all areas (Hebrews 12:27) causing the wicked to be cut off and the unfaithful to be rooted out, while those who are upright and blameless before You remain. (Proverbs 2:21-22)
Bring to light what is hidden in darkness, and expose the secret counsel and diabolical aims of wayward hearts. (1 Corinthians 4:5)
Let this nation remember from where they have fallen; repenting and returning to doing their first works, (Revelation 2:5)
Setting their hearts and their souls to seek the Lord, (1 Chronicles 22:19)
Humbling themselves, praying, and turning from their wicked ways. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Then hear them, O Lord, and forgive their sins and heal our land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light. (Acts 26:18)
Soften the hearts that are hardened through the deceitfulness of riches and sin. (Hebrews 3:13)
Deliver them from their destructions. (Psalm 107:20)
Father, You have been longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Raise up a standard in this nation. (Isaiah 49:22)
Cause the rains of Your Spirit to flood this land; reversing spiritual drought. (Zechariah 10:1)
And revive Your work in the midst of us. (Habakkuk 3:2)
Raise up intercessors to cover the work that you have called us to. (Isaiah 59:16)
Let there be a pulling down of strongholds over this land. (2 Corinthians 10:4)
And let the glory of the Lord be revealed! (Isaiah 40:5)
In Jesus Name, Amen.
